Battery Charging Tips to Conserve and Improve Battery Life

Regular charging of your iPhone as well as observing the standard charging procedures can also help in maximizing battery life and lifespan of your device. Read on for more details on how to properly charge and monitor your iPhone’s battery.

Observe Proper Way to Charge your iPhone battery

As recommended, connect your iPhone to a power outlet using the charging cable and the USB power adapter that come with the device.

Important Notes:

  • For safety purposes, do not charge your iPhone if you see or suspect that your iPhone’s lightning connector has been exposed to liquid.
  • Connecting your iPhone to a power outlet can also instigate an iCloud backup or wireless syncing with iTunes on your device.
  • If a power outlet is not available, you can also charge your iPhone by connecting it to a computer. This will also allow iTunes syncing. Just be sure to connect your iPhone to a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port on a computer.
  • Also, when charging your iPhone to a computer, ensure that your iPhone is connected to a computer that is turned on, not in sleep mode or standby mode. The battery may drain instead of charge if you connect your iPhone to a computer that is off, in sleep mode, or standby. Computer charging may likewise take a little longer than charging from a power outlet.

Monitor and Manage your iPhone’s Battery Usage

The percentage of battery remaining is shown in the status bar. If you are not seeing this icon in your iPhone’s status bar, you will need to turn on the Battery Percentage function. To do so, go to Settings-> Battery-> then toggle the switch to turn Battery Percentage on. Turning this feature on would trigger the remaining battery percentage to show in the status bar of your iPhone. This then gives you a hint on when to charge your device.

Additional Tips for Extending Battery Life on your iPhone 7 Plus

  • For the first three charge cycles, fully charge the battery overnight and then let it discharge completely before recharging. This process is referred to as battery conditioning.
  • Avoid exposing your iPhone to extreme heat or cold as it can result to a permanent damage on the battery capacity. Once damaged, your battery will not be able to power your iPhone as long on a given charge. In addition, charging your iPhone in high ambient temperatures can damage it further. An ideal ambient temperature should not exceed 35 ° C or 95 ° F.
  • Avoid extensive overcharging or continuously connecting your iPhone to a charger for over 24 hours. Your iPhone is using a lithium-ion battery, which is prone to damage by extensive overcharging.
  • Charge and recondition the battery after an extended idle period.
  • Avoid letting your battery sit idle for long periods of time. In short, use your iPhone’s battery power.
  • Use only the phone accessories and options that are really necessary.
  • As much as possible, only use Apple charging accessories for your iPhone 7 Plus.
  • When you are in an area where there is no cell coverage or low signal, turning on Airplane mode can help preserve your iPhone’s battery life. This is to prevent your device from searching for a better signal, which in turn affects battery life of your device.

In case you would need to store your iPhone long term, be sure to store it half-charged. As recommended, charge it to around 50 per cent. Storing your device with a fully discharged battery could cause the battery to fall into a deep discharge state, making it incapable of holding a charge. On the other hand, storing your device with a fully charged battery for a long period of time can cause the battery to lose some capacity, thereby resulting to a shorter battery life. To avoid additional battery use, power down your device, and place it in a cool, moisture-free environment with a temperature that’s lower than 32 ° C. After removing your device from storage, you may need to let it charge for at least 20 minutes using the original adapter prior to using it again. Your device may be in a low-battery state when you remove it from long-term storage depending on how long you store it.

If you are having issues with your iPhone 7 Plus battery when charging or it is not holding a charge, try to press and hold the Power button for 5 to 10 seconds, in case your iPhone won’t power on. If it powers on but doesn’t hold a charge, try to power cycle or reboot the device then let it charge completely and then test it again.

How the NYPD Is Using Apple iPhones to Fight Crime in New York City

By Don Reisinger February 6, 2018

The iPhone has answered the call of duty in New York City.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has begun equipping officers with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the New York Daily News is reporting . The officers are being asked to go to an old police academy in Manhattan and swap the Microsoft Lumia devices they’ve been using for Apple’s handsets. The NYPD is deploying iPhones at a rate of 600 units per day, deputy commissioner for information and technology Jessica Tisch told the Daily News .

The NYPD has been relying on Microsoft’s Lumia smartphones for years to do everything from filling out crime reports to evaluating surveillance pictures. However, when Microsoft announced last year that it would stop supporting its Windows Phone 8.1 operating system with new software updates and tweaks, the NYPD was forced to find an alternative. It chose the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus—handsets Apple released in 2016.

According to the report, the NYPD chose the iPhones for their improved speed and security. The department is allowing officers to choose between the two devices so they can get the screen size of their choosing. (Apple’s iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch screen and the iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch display.)

The police will generally be able to access all the same information they could on the Microsoft devices, but will be doing so in a completely different software environment in iOS. Either way, the phones have proven exceedingly important to police work and can often times get officers information far more quickly than legacy systems like radios. It’s also possible for the NYPD to pass to officer iPhones more relevant information about the environment they’re stepping into, including whether people living at a building are felons or if there’s a history or emotional disturbance.

Officers are also able to use third-party apps with the iPhones to help them in their work. One officer described using Google’s Waze navigation app to get around the city more quickly.
